Becky thanks for raising the matter of leaving pets in vehicles in summer. So many folk seem not to understand the potential dangers and it is so sad.

Feedback from Survivor_BeckyConrad: Hi, Maggie,
Good to hear from you and thanks for your comments. Yes, it is an issue that needs addressed not just for pets but for children as well! We know that happens too!

What a great shot- what is your cats name? Have a blessed day, bren
Feedback from Survivor_BeckyConrad: Hi, Brenda,
Our cat's name is Callie-Kitty. Yeah, my husband named her! She is so funny and really a sweet kitty. I posted a video of her on YouTube fetching her mouse, which she loves to do! Type in, "Callie-kitty mouse fetching" on YouTube and you can watch it. It is about 3 minutes long.
Good to hear from you!
God Bless always,

Feedback from Survivor_BeckyConrad: Hi, Rege,
Thanks for your input. I appreciate it!
I think it has to do with "what?" or "who?" a person is trying to accomplish or satisfy that can be complete or not.

About Me

Dear visitors,
"There can be many years of many tears but there can be many miles of many smiles. The scars that remain do not have to determine where you are going. Be a survivor." Becky Conrad

About me:  Who am I? I am a person who cares deeply for other people and animals who have suffered violence and abuse against them, now or in the past. Plus, I am an avid animal lover. No one should suffer abuse or violence against them. Get help, it is out there everywhere to survive and have a better life. You deserve it. So do the animals.

I am currently a W.I.S.H. (Women In Safe Homes) Facilitator at my local Victim Assitance office. I have worked there for over six years.

I hold group sessions weekly, trying to give encouragement to women who are going through the court system and are victims of violence and abuse against them. Some of the women who come to the group sessions are still reeling from the emotional roller-coaster of abuse and violence in their past. Suvivors come to the group sessions to try and get their lives back---to feel good about themselves---to discover that they are worthy of a better life---a life without violence and abuse. No one deserves it. Especially the children.

I care deeply about animals too. I have had them all my life. The joy they bring to me and my husband knows no bounds. They are constantly entertaining us. When we are sick, they are there to comfort us. When we are down, they are there to lift our spirits with their antics. When we are sad, they are there giving us comfort without even knowing it.

I am very involved with a  non-profit organization (501 (c) (3) in my area. We started in January 2007.  We purchased land in our area on July 1st, 2009 to build a greatly needed animal shelter for our rural county. There is not an animal shelter for sixty miles, and so many animals need loving "forever homes." We have a mission. Grant funding is being pursued with diligence and vigor. We are making progress, step-by-step. Our goal to build the animal shelter is 2013, and raise the $300,000.00 to build it!

I became an author while attending college for the first time in my life at the age of 55. I did a thesis on "Domestic Violence" and it opened new doors for me.

College was a rewarding experience. From that experience, I went on to become a published author. Is my writing great? I own all the typos and errors in my books. They are what they are. The story is all there, and if you can see beyond the typos...well, I will let you decide. Some day when I get a lot of money, I'll fix the typos! Although even the greatest of authors have typos in their books too.

I learned so much in the beginning with my first book, THE DOOR OF FAÇADE . Most of all, do not proof your own works and take your time. Read and re-read. Since then, I have learned so much more in the art of writing and I try to implement what I have learned in my works today. (I'm always learning.)

Being an author has been a journey of ups and downs, rewards and dissappointments, but mainly the rewards have been many, especially those who have read my books and have let me know the books have helped them. Even in this day and age, there are those who have not finished High School. How very sad.  They spoke of their gratefullness for keeping the writing in my books simple without a lot of $1.00 words.

I love pursuing the on-going trials and errors of educating myself to be a better author. At every author workshop or every author conference I attend, they continue to lift my spirts so high, I soar!

There is so much to learn, and so much to share. I have even conducted  some workshops in my area to help other struggling writers/authors get inspired and reach for the stars. "The more we know the more we grow."

The rewards of the feedback that I get from those who have read my books, THE DOOR OF FAÇADE and the sequel, A BETTER DAY DAWNING, have been my continued inspiration to do more to help others. I am currently working on another book, and I hope to have it released in the near future.

I have two missions in life:
One: To educate the public on domestic violence and abuse . Visit the ODVN (Ohio Domestic Violence Network at: www.ODVN.org). Great web site for resources dealing with domestic violence, abuse, stalking, rape, and so much more.
Two: To help animals. I am so blessed!

Review by: Rebecca, Family Advocate, Head Start - May 11, 2009.

The emotions I felt when reading THE DOOR OF FAÇADE were indescribable. One minute I felt sadness, anger, and tears, and the next true inspiration. I could not put it down. You held me captive wondering what could possibly be next and your accounts are written with such great detail, I began to feel as if I were walking beside you only wishing there was something I could do to stop it. I know these books will open the eyes, ears, and hearts of anyone who may be living in a world of abuse, as well as those that may know or suspect someone that is. Thank you, Becky, for sharing your heart and life with us. Both, THE DOOR OF FA ÇADEand A BETTER DAY DAWNING are truly inspirational and a must read.

REVIEW FOR THE DOOR OF FAÇADE - BY BECKY CONRAD
Review by Ann B. Keller - Author/Screenwriter - July 13, 2008.

How many of us wear a social mask, putting forth the façade, the face of what we want others to see?  The title of this novel is well suited to the story itself.  From the moment that sweet young Becky meets handsome and rich Bob Dillough, she’s swept along on a romantic tsunami that promises she’ll live happily ever after.  Becky’s “princeâ€, however, is far from perfect.

Although Bob wines and dines his young bride, he is severely flawed.  He drinks too much, lies, cheats on Becky and has more excuses than a tardy high school student.  As Bob’s behavior turns increasingly violent, Becky starts looking for a way out of her predicament, even though she is assailed by guilt for her failing marriage.  I held my breath when Bob literally shoved a gun into Becky’s face!  For a few terrible moments, her life hung in the balance.  Thankfully, Becky was able to escape Bob’s clutches and this book is a strong statement against domestic violence and abuse in all its forms.  What makes The Door of Façade all the more compelling is that it is a true story - Becky’s story.  I can’t wait to read her second novel to learn the good news!

Ann B. Keller, Author/Screenwriter

Review by a Victim’s Advocate:
I have had the pleasure to read,
The Door of Façade.
Becky. Your "story" is truly touching. I could never feel the sadness you felt, but I felt extreme sorrow for you. Sad to say, I could not put the book down. I commend you for your true bravery and courage to overcome such tragedy. The book was great, and I am looking forward to reading the sequel. I know your story will inspire those who are suffering in a domestic violence world!" Heidi

Writer’s Digest 15th Annual International Self-Published Book Awards Commentary. 2007 Author: Becky Conrad Title: THE DOOR OF FAÇADE
Category: Nonfiction Judge: 45 Judge’s commentary: What did you like best about this book? Ms. Conrad writes from the heart with such direct honesty and sincerity that throughout we readers not only pull for her, but we mentally urge her along, wishing her strength to leave her husband, which she ultimately is able to do. Women especially will understand (I do) what she experienced, how difficult her situation was in those days. Through the author’s vivid narrative we feel this brave women’s pain. The dialog is effective, moving the story along and creating images of the characters, particularly herself and her husband; the reader will hate the man and be outraged at this deceitful, unacceptable behavior. A memoir, the book validates the author’s plight. Her desperate experiences can also be a cautionary tale for other abused women. Her honest recall is commendable. The cover is telling, with the door ajar, and what one finds behind it. “FAÇADE†accurately describes the author’s marriage. The author is a good fluid writer. Hopefully she will continue her craft.

A BETTER DAY DAWNING- By Becky Conrad.  The continued memoirs.

Out of the abyss of abuse, violence and darkness, Becky struggles to move forward. She stumbles and falls on the hard road of life. A will to survive and self-determination pulls at her inner being as she struggles to reach for the faint glimmer of light that could possibly lift her out of the void of the deep, dark pit she is in.

Can she ever find herself? Forgive herself? Can she ever find true love? Can she ever feel forgiveness? Can she repair her torn and tattered soul?

A new journey awaits her, full of surprises, yet also the journey deals with heartache and pain, and yet even more lies and deception. Will she ever find her daughter and feel forgiveness? Can she forgive her mother? This book is a memoir of her journey out of the darkness. This book was written to help other survivors learn and grow in a world filled with uncertainty and with many twists and turns on the hard road of life.

A BETTER DAY DAWNING - By Becky Conrad.
Page-turner, Refreshing, Hope, Inspirational
Review by: Writer, Mary Hecht (2/18/09)

Becky Conrad draws you into her life with a desire to know what will happen next. You hope for the best as she struggles to put the past behind her. Her thoughts make you feel as if you are there, and you will find it hard to put this book down. As with many women, Becky has a lot on her heart and mind. She wants to contribute by giving back to her community. If you are an animal lover, this book will please you. Her love of animals leads her down the road of unavoidable heartbreak. Working for the Humane Society gives her purpose, but takes so much of her time; it is overwhelming. She struggles to balance work and her private life. Church was a place she thought would fulfill the desire to serve and worship God in the company of other believers. Human nature steals the joy as she questions her heartfelt desire to help and serve others. She gave until she was broken down and no one seemed to care. Questioning her life path, she makes hard to take adjustments. She makes you feel her disappointment and frustration. Her writing is truly understandable as you follow her steps. This book is a refreshing story filled with ups and downs, as she deals with the declining health of her Mother. The detailed nature of this book shows the reader, you are not alone. She makes you realize you must have patience and forgiveness. I loved this book for its truth in writing. Becky shows you there is hope for those that have suffered great pain at the hands of those they loved. A book you will recommend to family and friends. Writer, Mary Hecht (Waterfallzzz)

A BETTER DAY DAWNING -  By Becky Conrad
Something For Everyone -A wonderful book.
Review by: Author, Sharon Farnham (2/17/09)

This is a great book which has a wonderful character in it that has much love in her heart. This woman looks around for ways to help her family and friends. If you like adventure books, this book is full of horses and dogs and her love for them and theirs for her. Also, this book is for victims of abuse to read to learn how to put the abuse behind them and move on with their lives. It is a true story. With this book you don't have to be a victim of abuse to love it. There are things in it for all of us . Read it and you will be saying ,"I have been there too. Wow! So that is how she handled it!" You will sit and cheer with this book and how she handles her life. This book deals with aging parents ,and what to do to help them. But this is one of those books you may want to re-read.

Writer’s Digest 15th Annual International Self-Published Book Awards 2007 Author: Becky Conrad Title: A BETTER DAY DAWNING Category: Nonfiction Judge: 45 Judge’s Commentary: What did you like best about this book? If someone has read the first book (as I did), she would wish for more, and want to know how Ms. Conrad did on her own, how she grew, how she dealt with the inevitable problems she faced, as only on can expect from an abusive situation. So many women can relate to the topic (me included), and readers will be relieved following her travails that there is real hope, even light coming out of the dark, as the title affirms. Realistically we readers know the author would have a difficult time on her own, and that she’d be haunted by Bob and we’d see him again. We’re relieved she finds a little peace, and a new, trustworthy, devoted mate. Ms. Conrad’s voice is consistent throughout and her dialogue is authentic. A natural writer obviously, with continued practice she will get better and better. No doubt the author found her writing very cathartic during those years of horror and beyond. The title is a good one.
