Enjoyed reading cemetary polka - great idea !
Feedback from wilfriedvoss: Thank you! I looked at some song titles from Tom Waits and used them as an inspiration to write short stories.

I LOVE "MACARTHUR PARK" AND Jimmy Webb is a helluva song writer. I think Harris was in his wild days when he recorded that. Running around with Peter O'Toole. I was lucky enough to see him in "Camelot" years later.

Oh, another long song is "Taxi" by Harry Chapin who left us way too soon.

Anything about music has me pronto. Thank you.

About Me

About Me:
I don’t think anyone should write their autobiography until after they’re dead.
- Samuel Goldwyn

My name is Wilfried Voss and my sixth sense tells me I am still alive. I was born and raised in Germany, but for the past twenty years my home and my heart have been in beautiful New England. I share my birthday with celebrities like THE KING (Elvis Presley) and David Bowie, which is January 8 (not the same year, though).

My background is in Electrical Engineering and my special skills allowed me to travel all over the world, until I found my home here in the United States. I got married to an Irish-American green-eyed red-head – Hey, what are the chances to find Irish folks in Massachusetts… – and on May 27th, 2007 I was blessed with the birth of my son, Patrick. The same year I was also officially received into the Episcopal Church – We’re not Catholic, but that is another story and shall be told another time. The next adventure will be to finally become an American citizen.

A Czech proverb says “Learn a new language and you gain another soul” and I can say, despite being familiar with the English language for many years, living in the United States has gained me another soul. I started writing and publishing technical literature, while still maintaining my job as the president of a business that sells industrial electronics components.

The first book helped me to overcome the writer’s fear of being published and I will continue this line of work, because it is awarding, not due to the monetary compensation, but, egoistically and arrogantly, for my mind.

Currently, I am exploring another genre of writing, namely fiction writing. I have numerous ideas in my head that would provide enough material for at least another four or five books, but as Peter De Vries said: “I love being a writer. What I can’t stand is the paper work.” Writing a novel takes time and being my worst critic, it always takes some time before I am satisfied with my own writing.

As of September 2008 I have published my first novel, The Bleeding Hills. It is available at all good bookstores and Online resources such as Barnes & Noble, Amazon, etc. I am currently working on several writing projects which will spawn new publications eventually.

Title: The Bleeding Hills
Price: US$12.48
ISBN#: 978-0-9765116-4-9
Buy It Here: Amazon.com
Abstract: TheBleedingHills-ANovelbyWilfriedF.VossThe Irish War is officially a part of history, but not for Finnean Whelan, an IRA veteran of almost 40 years. British Intelligence has produced evidence that he is the mastermind behind a conspiracy to assassinate the First Minister of Northern Ireland. Finn is protected in his exile in the United States after having worked for the CIA . Consequently, British Intelligence has come up with a plan to lure Finn back into their jurisdiction, Northern Ireland , by revealing the identity of the man who is ultimately responsible for the killing of Finn’s wife, Shauna. Here they hope not only to apprehend him, but also lead them to another conspirator, Martin Sheehan, who hides in the Northern provinces . For Whelan this is not only a mission of revenge, but marks the beginning of a journey into the past and the return to the one true love: Ireland.

The Bleeding Hills, Wilfried F. Voss’ new novel, is skillfully divided into three time lines; they keep the reader glued to the story by providing some surprising twists and turns.

The first time line describes the life of Finnean Whelan and his first contact with the Irish Republican Army in the late 1960s.

The second line is set in the presence and it portrays Whelan’s journey to Northern Ireland where he intends to accomplish his final plot.

The third time line is dedicated to the activities of British Intelligence Services, namely the MI5, attempting to apprehend Whelan and his co-conspirator, Martin Sheehan.

All time lines come together in the end and they make for some intriguing twists. Wilfried F. Voss has cleverly weaved real events of recent Irish history, namely the Irish Troubles, into the life story of Finnean Whelan. They are, just to name a few examples, the events of Bloody Sunday, and the murder of Captain Robert Nairac, an officer with the British Army.

The historical facts have been thoroughly investigated, but the author also takes some liberties for interpretation; these interpretations are, nevertheless, based on his meticulous research. One theory, for instance, is that Captain Robert Nairac was the victim of child abuse at Ampleforth College in England, which, consequently, caused Nairac’s violent behavior during the Irish Troubles.

Another interesting theory is based on the claim that British Intelligence Services, even to the present day, are instrumental in a plot to disrupt the peace process in Northern Ireland.

Whether or not these claims are true is of no consequence; The Bleeding Hills is not only entertaining, but it also effectively tickles the reader’s mind to learn more about recent Irish history.

Reviews: Paul Dolan Iubito - Amazon Customer Review 5 Stars:
Using the yarns of the past and the present, violence and love, deceit and honesty, The Bleeding Hills is a tale woven like an Irish sweater. It is a well crafted page-turner that keeps the reader in suspense with unexpected twists throughout. This story is about more than just a the Irish Troubles and espionage; it is personalized through Finn exploring his triumphs and retrospective regrets. What is truly impressive is the author's skill at exploring the larger issue of civil conflicts--how individuals become involved and how governments perpetuate--without being obvious or sacrificing any of the story at hand. An outstanding story that is a must read.

L. Pierro-Pulsifer - Amazon Customer Review 5 Stars:
Great novel! The story line is captivating and the characters are believable. The author incorporated events of recent Irish history, but he also addresses political issues such as the current MI5 involvement in Northern Ireland. His views may be pro-Irish, but they are nevertheless in favor of present day British policies. All this is skillfully mingled with a real-life story with all the right elements - love, romance, suspense, and humor.

Y. Campbell - Amazon Customer Review 5 Stars:
Although the story here is fictional, I felt the historical research portrayed in The Bleeding Hills was very well done. Voss has achieved weaving the three time lines portrayed in the story together with interesting twists and turns (that I was not expecting) into a solid and, I think, fair rendition of the Irish Troubles from a personal point of view - that of Finnean Whelan. The story of Finnean Whelan and his love of Ireland is both exciting and touching - a good read for anyone interested in the Irish Troubles with a touch of excitement and mystery included.

Title: A No-Nonsense Guide to a Professional Blog
Price: US$10.95
ISBN#: 978-0-9765116-8-7
Buy it Here: Copperhill Books
Abstract: ANo-NonsenseGuidetoaProfessionalBlogA step-by-step guide to setting up a blog with WordPress, spam-protecting your blog, search engine optimization, and creating web traffic. This a very concise book with a “quick and dirty” approach; it will allow you to set up a professional looking blog within hours. The book has been written while creating http://www.myprofessionalblog.com. See the web site as a reference of what you can do.

As the title of this book implies – I am referring to the “No-Nonsense” part – I am trying to deliver you a concise description on how to set up your own, professional looking blog without the usual motivational bla-bla combined with superficial information I found in many other books. My approach is “quick and dirty.”

At the time of the writing I have set up numerous blogs, and I have investigated numerous scenarios of how to get a blog useful for one’s purposes.

In my personal case I am in the business of promoting my books, but I also looked into related aspects such as selling my books through my blogs, or even create revenues through my web site with paid advertisement. In the process I found a lot of useless books on the topic, and I deemed it was time to stop the nonsense.

Please be aware that all the information in this book in freely available through the Internet, or through many, more detailed books, but reading this book and following the instructions will save you a lot of time and, after all, aggravation.

This book will give you a crash-course in setting up your blog, and, if you need more than just a basic blog, I have tried to add as many exciting features as possible. I also put an emphasis on search engine optimization (SEO).
